Some Solutions for Those Looking for Tight Curl Products

While our Miss MyMy curly hair products are being formulated, we've been forced to seek out alternatives for our Tight Curl wearers (like myself ;-)

Catwalk Curls Rock Curl Amplifier by TIGI is one of my recent favs.

I find this product provides the curl definition and hold that's so important when dealing with tight curls.  One thing we have to mention is that TIGI has recently changed the packaging on their Catwalk line.  We've tried the product in the new packaging and noticed a VISIBLE difference in the way my hair behaved.  When I used the newly packaged Curl Amplifier, my hair was frizzier, had less curl definition, and their was a strange white residue left on both my hands, and my hair.  I've mentioned it to several retailers, and some have quite adamantly told me, that no, the formulation hasn't been changed, only the packaging.  I beg to differ.  We've been running around the city (both Toronto and Miami) trying to buy up as many of the products we can find in the old packaging.  If you're out about about and you see it, I would suggest you get it.

STYLING YOUR TIGHT CURL HAIR
After washing hair and thoroughly combing out, I comb through about 2 pumps of the Curl Amplifier.  Then I add a generous amount of Miss MyMy Hair Essence Serum, paying attention not to skimp out on the back of the head.  This next step is super important, and often over-looked, SCRUNCH...SCRUNCH...SCRUNCH those curls.  AND STOP!  Avoid the temptation to run your fingers through those locks.  The more you fuss with it, the frizzier you risk it being.  Dry using a diffuser, or allow to air dry.  For longer hair, you may want to loosely clip hair on top your head, so the natural weight of the hair isn't stretching out the curls as it dries.

Styling Tips for Curly Hair

While the Miss MyMy curly hair wigs and extensions http://www.missmymy.com/wigs.html
http://www.missmymy.com/remi_cuticle.html are a truly beautiful thing, there are a few things you should know in order to keep your curl looking it's Miss MyMy best.

Clean
Curly hair tends to get very dry very quickly. It's imperative that you wash your hair at least weekly with a moisturizing shampoo. Miss MyMy's Nourishing Shampoo is formulated to clean your hair without stripping your hair. People tend to think that frequent washing will wash out all the moisture from their hair, but think of it this way: when you wash your hair, you are saturating it with water, cleaning away pollutants and build up which can cause your hair to not behave properly. Believe it or not, even your natural scalp oil if allowed to build up for weeks on end (trust me, Miss MyMy has seen it ALL!) can cause the hair on your wig to break.

Condition
Once you've cleaned your hair, you want to lock in some of that moisture with a good conditioner. Miss MyMy's Pliant Conditioner Series is specially formulated to replenish your hair with moisture. Your hair is left feeling silky and smelling great too! I like to comb my conditioner through with a wide tooth comb.

Serum

I was reading in a fashion magazine this morning about caring for curly hair (which is where I got the idea of today's blog topic) and one of the things mentioned, was serum. Well, well, well...Miss MyMy has been shouting the praises on Miss MyMy Hair Essence Hair Serum for years! This is the second article in the past couple weeks that I've seen them mention the importance of serum. In one of my previous posts, I mentioned using serum with styling to achieve the long, straight look. I've been telling you all for years, with your curly hair, whether it's a wig or hair extensions, you'll want to smooth some serum through your wet hair. Comb it through thoroughly. Allow it to air dry UNDISTURBED if you can. If you can't, then blow dry using a diffuser. SCRUNCH those curls!

Avoid Over Touching
While your hair is drying, resist the temptation to run your fingers through. All that touching creates friction. Friction creates frizz! I know, it's hard to resist touching your lovely Miss MyMy hair ;-)

Periodic Deep Treatments
At least once every 4-6 weeks, give that hair a deep treatment. If it's a removable unit, Miss MyMy Spa dip is an excellent product! (soon available online) Simply add a small amount to some warm water in a basin, and soak your (already washed) unit for at least 30 minutes. If your unit is sewn in or glued on, you can apply a deep treatment, wrap hair in a warm wet towel, and cover with a plastic cap for at least 15 minutes.

When we at Miss MyMy ask whether you'll be needing any products, bear this in mind: you've just invested in your beautiful hair, whether a unit or extensions. Using the proper products to care for your unit only enhances your original investment. With proper care and maintenance, your unit will look beautiful and behave beautifully, for a much longer time!

Fijian Tight Curl Worn Straight

Natalie has been wearing a 24' tight curl Fijian for the past month or so, and I guess she was missing her straight hair. She was curious to try blowing out the tight curl, to see how it would come out, and here you can see her results. We apologize for the poor quality of the cell phone cam, but it was what we had on hand LOL.

I think this goes to show how versatile Miss MyMy hair can be. We only used Miss MyMy Hair Essence Serum to blow dry, and then flat ironed it. Remember though, as with your own curly hair, you don't want to do this too often, as excessive flat ironing can permanently alter the natural curly texture of your hair.
